 Promoting Business Incubation for Small Entrepreneurs (PROMISE)


PROMISE supports young entrepreneurs in Bangladesh to successfully develop their businesses. Its goal is to create decent employment opportunities through the establishment of youth-led enterprises in local communities. The PROMISE program is open to all business-minded young people in Bangladesh and also provides a natural next step for STAR graduates who wish to start their own businesses.

 Skills Training for Advancing Resources (STAR) The STAR programme uses the traditional apprenticeship (ostad-shagred) model to offer free skills training in Bangladesh’s informal sector. Building an equitable future needs stronger ‘Skills Ecosystem Building’ for youth in Bangladesh

Young people in Bangladesh find themselves at the forefront of navigating through immense challenges socially and economically in the current context. As the country finds political stability in the coming future under the interim Government, it is time to take stock of what youth really need from society. One-fourth of the country’s population is between the ages of 15-29. Based on the NEET population the country is 28.8% of the young population, which is roughly 13 million. According to the Labour Force Survey 2016-17 , 92% of work is in the informal sector, which is about 12 million young people. BRAC, as an organisation, has always stayed relevant to the needs of youth inclusive of the informal sector. Social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok are no longer just for social connection; they are key spaces where young people advocate for change and express themselves. According to The Daily Star, individuals aged 15-29 make up approximately 27.96% of the total population. This demographic is increasingly using social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok to express their opinions, connect with peers, and advocate for change. By the end of 2022, social media usage among the 18 to 24 age group in Bangladesh, increased significantly. Facebook had the largest user base in this demographic, with 21.7 million users.
